Two young women got together to organize a “White Night” in Eugénio Tavares square, on the 15th of December, with the aim of involving the Christmas spirit in the people of Brave.

Laura Gomes, one of the organizers, told Inforpress that this idea “copied” from the one held in the city of Praia, comes from last year.

According to her, in the previous year they did something, but it was not as they intended and this year this desire to do something different for Christmas “reactivated”.

According to this organizer, it is something they find “interesting” and even if they don't do the same activities that are carried out in Praia or elsewhere, because each one goes according to their possibilities, the important thing is to reach the objective.

"We want to make the people of Brave feel the Christmas spirit in an early way and in an environment of great joy, an environment that transmits peace", advanced the protagonist.

Because they did not have enough means and resources, they sought the partnership of the city council, which supported them with space and some materials. He added that the invited groups are aware that there is no compensation.

The “White Night” program includes a musical performance by the Brava music school, dancing with students from the Lém school, recitation of poetry, theatrical performance, performance by choirs from various churches, among others.

Asked about the difficulties they are facing in organizing an activity of this type, she listed that the biggest one is the lack of participation on the part of the invited people and groups who, normally, end up giving up at the last minute, when the program is already concluded and disclosed.

But, to prevent this obstacle, the organizers are experimenting with a different strategy.

“Of the groups we invite, we get a leader for each one here at the high school, which we encourage and, in turn, motivates the other members of the group”, said Laura Gomes, adding that this was the only form of incentive and a step to guarantee the participation of groups already confirmed.

For this reason, he pointed out that not many activities are carried out on the island, perhaps due to a lack of dynamism of people and motivation, because there is space that allows various activities to be carried out.
